It does not matter how you get to Machu Picchu: by train, Inca Trail or an alternative trip, seeing the city of Machu Picchu is impressive, but seeing it from above is much more. There are 2 popular ways to get these views, the mountain of Machu Picchu or Wayna Picchu, the latter being the most popular and most requested.
To make the ascent to one of these mountains you need an extra ticket which has to be bought well in advance since there is little availability of spaces and many people who want to visit these places.

If you make an alternate route to the Inca Trail, the cost of the ticket is U$.60 dollars, but it has to be purchased together with the entrance to Machu Picchu + Wayna picchu or Machu Picchu + Mountain.

- Entrance to Machu Picchu + Mountain = Available
If you do the Inca Trail, the cost of admission is U$:60, it is not possible to buy the Inca Trail ticket with these 2 alternatives, you must necessarily buy another entrance ticket to Machu Picchu with Wayna Picchu or Machu Picchu. Mountain.

- Entrance to Machu Picchu + Wayna Picchu = available.
You also have another option if you can’t buy one of these tickets, you can go up to the Puerta del Sol or walk to the Inca bridge, they are totally free places, where the panoramic views are spectacular.

As of June 1, 2024, Machu Picchu has implemented new circuits to better manage visitor flow and preserve the site. Here are the main circuits available:
- Circuit 1 (Panoramic Route)
- Circuit 1-A: Machu Picchu Mountain Route: Offers panoramic views from the Guardian House sector but does not include access to the main Inca constructions. The hike is moderate to high in difficulty and takes about 4 hours round trip.
- Circuit 1-B: Upper Terrace Route: Easy route allowing classic postcard photos from the Guardian House viewpoint. Takes about 2.5 hours.
- Circuit 1-C: Intipunku Gate Route: Available only in high season. Moderate difficulty with some stairs, taking about 2 hours round trip.
- Circuit 1-D: Inca Bridge Route: Available only in high season. Easy route taking about 2 hours.
- Circuit 2 (Machu Picchu Ticket)
- Classic Designed Route (2-A): Comprehensive tour through the upper and urban sectors, including Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Temple of the Condor. This route is long and highly recommended for a full experience of Machu Picchu.
- Lower Terrace Route (2-B): Focuses on the lower part, including the Qolqas, Water Fountains, and Water Mirrors, with an option to take photos similar to the classic ones.
- Circuit 3 (Huayna Picchu Route)
- Huayna Picchu Mountain Route: Accesses the lower part and includes a hike up Wayna Picchu. This circuit does not allow classic postcard photos.
- Royalty Designed Route (3-B): Focuses on the urban sector without extra hikes.
- Great Caves Route: Takes about 3 hours and is only available in high season, including a hike to the Great Caves.
- Huchuy Picchu Route: Available only in high season, includes a hike to Huchuy Picchu (Pacha Expeditions).
- Circuit 5
- Designed for visitors arriving via the Inca Trail. This circuit includes the agricultural terraces, Water Fountain, Temple of the Sun, Inca House, and Pisonay Plaza.
Ministerial Resolution of New Tourist Circuits in Machu Picchu.
Through Ministerial Resolution No. 000207-2024-MC published on May 13, 2024, the Ministry of Culture approves the “Protocol for the Management of Visits to the Llaqta or Inca City of Machu Picchu” which highlights new circuits to visit the wonder of the Machu Picchu world.
Article No. 3 (Equivalence of tourist visit circuits) said resolution indicates in detail the new circuits and their equivalences, which are shown in the following table:
